How Dog Meet Dog keeps you and your dog safe — verification, reporting, and meetup best practices.
Profile verification
Verified profiles carry a blue checkmark. Verification requires:
- A government-issued photo ID (matched against your profile photo)
- A live selfie for liveness detection
Verification is optional but recommended. Verified profiles get priority in Discover and a trust badge visible to other owners.
Reporting and blocking
Tap the flag icon on any profile or message to report:
- Fake profiles or impersonation
- Harassment or inappropriate messages
- Animal abuse concerns
- Spam or solicitation
Reports are reviewed within 24 hours. Blocking a user immediately removes them from your matches, Discover feed, and chat list. They are not notified.
Safe meetup guidelines
When meeting a match for the first time:
- Meet in public — choose a busy dog park or café, not a private residence
- Tell a friend — share your meetup location and time with someone you trust
- Stay in the app — keep messaging in-app until you are comfortable
- Bring a leash — even for off-leash parks, keep your dog leashed until you have assessed the other dog's temperament
- Trust your instincts — leave early if anything feels off
Dog safety
- Confirm the other dog's vaccination status before close contact
- Start with a parallel walk before allowing off-leash play
- Watch for stress signals (tucked tail, whale eye, growling) and separate early if needed
- Carry water and waste bags for both dogs
Data privacy
- Your precise location is never shared — distances are approximate
- Messages are end-to-end encrypted
- Photos are watermarked to discourage screenshots
- You can delete your account and all data at any time (Settings → Account)
