Profile and dogs
Create, edit, and share dog profiles, manage photos, and switch between multiple dogs.
Create a dog profile
Dog Meets Dog uses your dog's profile as the public-facing identity. In the mobile onboarding flow, confirm that you are 18 or older before creating a dog profile. The age confirmation is recorded by the profile API, and the API also checks for that consent when a profile is created or edited.
The profile form accepts:
- Name, breed, and age — age is entered in months.
- Date of birth — optional in the mobile profile form. It is used for birthday features; the public profile displays the dog's age rather than the full date of birth.
- Bio — written as your dog.
- About my human — an owner description written in your dog's voice.
- Personality tags — choose the tags that describe your dog.
- Size and energy level — optional profile attributes.
- Play styles — such as wrestler, chaser, fetcher, tugger, gentle player, independent, or swimmer.
- Health and care tags — optional tags for care and health information.
- Profile prompts — optional conversation starters, with up to three answered prompts.
You can enter these fields during onboarding or update them later from Edit Profile. The web editor and mobile editor save the same profile fields through the profile router.
Add and review photos
The profile editor supports up to eight photos. The first published photo is the main photo; in the editor, drag photos to reorder them. You must keep at least one photo when deleting from the mobile editor.
The upload flow is:
- Choose a photo and confirm the crop in the mobile app, or add it from the web photo editor.
- The photo is uploaded and recorded for the active dog.
- The new photo starts as Pending review. The app runs dog detection and the server owns publication and main-photo decisions.
- A published photo can appear on the profile. A rejected photo is not published and can be shown as unavailable in the owner view.
A confident no-dog result can show a warning in the mobile app. Uncertain results are not treated as approval: they remain available for the moderation queue. If a photo is rejected, review the status and replace it if needed.
Manage more than one dog
You can create additional dog profiles. Each dog has its own profile fields and photo set. The profile API records an active dog for the account.
When an account has at least two dogs, the mobile app shows the Dog Switcher with each dog's name and primary photo. Select a dog to make it active, or tap Add to start another dog profile. The active dog is used by profile, photo, matching, and compatibility surfaces, so switch dogs before editing or reviewing those surfaces.
View a public dog profile
A public dog profile is returned only when the dog profile is not hidden, and only published dog photos are included. Depending on the surface, a profile can show:
- A photo carousel, name, breed, and age
- Size and energy details when present
- Personality, play-style, and health tags
- The dog's bio and the About my human description
- Answered prompts and profile badges that are marked to show on the profile
Signed-in members can also see the dog's home park on the web profile. The web site removes the home-park field for anonymous visitors.
Compatibility
When the viewer has an active dog, the profile can show a compatibility score and factor breakdown. This is a profile-similarity calculation based on the profile factors available to both dogs, not a safety or behavior guarantee. A profile can still be viewed without a compatibility card when there is no viewer dog to compare.
Report or block
Use the profile's report control to report a dog profile. The report form accepts a reason such as inappropriate content, harassment, spam, fake profile, underage user, or other, with optional details.
Use Block user when you do not want to match or message the person. Blocking severs matching and messaging in both directions. You can manage blocked users and unblock someone later from the account settings; unblocking is a separate explicit action.
Age consent and profile visibility
Age consent and profile visibility are separate:
- Age consent is required before the API will create or update a dog profile, and the mobile onboarding gate cannot be skipped.
- Age display is part of the public dog profile. The public renderers format the dog's age (for example, years and months) instead of displaying the full date-of-birth field.
- Publication controls what others can see. Hidden dog profiles are not returned by the public profile query, and pending or rejected photos are not public.
