Discover and matches
Browse nearby dogs, tune your filters, match, and start a match-scoped chat in Dog Meets Dog.
Dog Meets Dog's Discover feed helps you find dogs near your current location. The mobile app uses your foreground location permission to load the feed; without permission, it cannot find dogs nearby.
Browse Discover
Each Discover card can include the dog's name, breed, age, photos, bio, owner description, personality tags, size, energy level, play styles, health tags, profile prompts, badges, distance, and whether the dog shares your home park.
Tap a card to open the dog's full profile. If there are no dogs nearby, widen your search or adjust your filters.
Swipe actions
- Like — swipe right or tap Like.
- Pass — swipe left or tap Pass.
- Super Bark — use the highlighted action to send a Super Bark. You have one Super Bark per day; the app disables the action after the daily allowance is used.
- Rewind — undo your last swipe when a Rewind is available. A Rewind can restore the dog to the front of your deck; you cannot rewind again after the same swipe has been restored.
If both dogs like each other, Dog Meets Dog creates a match. The match reveal shows both dogs, a compatibility story when enough profile data is available, and Say hi or Keep swiping actions.
Location and filters
Discover requests foreground location permission and sends the current latitude and longitude to the feed. The feed uses saved preferences when you do not provide new ones.
The filter sheet supports:
- Distance —
radiusKm, from 1 km to 100 km; the default is 50 km. - Age range — minimum and maximum age in months. The app groups this range into Puppy, Young, Adult, and Senior brackets, and no selection shows all ages.
- Size — small, medium, or large.
- Energy level — low, medium, or high.
- Play style — Wrestler, Chaser, Fetcher, Tugger, Gentle, Independent, or Swimmer.
Empty selections for size, energy, and play style show all values for that filter. Apply the filters to save them and reload the feed; use Reset to return to the defaults.
Compatibility
When both profiles have usable data, Dog Meets Dog calculates a percentage compatibility score from these factors:
- Energy — up to 30 points
- Play style — up to 25 points
- Size — up to 20 points
- Age — up to 15 points
- Personality — up to 10 points
The score is normalized over the factors that have data. If no factor can be compared, the match reveal uses the generic presentation instead of inventing a score.
Matches
The Matches tab lists your active matches. Each row can show the other dog's primary photo, name, breed, the latest message, when it was sent, and whether you have an unread message. Sent messages show a single check until they are read, then show double checks.
Matched dogs whose birthday is today can appear above the list. Tap Send a birthday bark to open that match's chat.
Match settings and mutes
Open a chat's settings to control your side of the match:
- Share your photo — let this match see your owner photo.
- Share your check-ins — let this match know when you are at a park.
- Notify me when they check in — available when the other person shares check-ins.
- Mute — stop receiving notifications from this person while staying matched.
The same settings sheet also lets you report the other dog, unmatch, or block. Unmatching ends the match; blocking prevents contact and visibility while active; blocked users are managed and can be unblocked in Settings.
Match chat
Chats are scoped to a match. You can:
- Send text messages up to 1,000 characters.
- Use generated icebreaker prompts based on the matched dog's profile. Selecting a prompt puts it in the message field so you can edit or send it.
- Share an owner photo from the chat header. Shared photos appear in the match's timeline.
- See read receipts as messages become visible to the other participant.
Playdate proposals
- Propose a playdate with an optional park, a proposed time, and an optional message. The other participant can accept or decline, and either participant can cancel an eligible proposal.
Chat access is limited to participants in the match; sending messages and sharing owner photos require an active match.
