Dog Meets Dog

Events, playdates, and safety

Use park invitations, plan playdates with a match, and understand reporting and moderation.

Invite people to play at a park

A play invitation is a short-lived signal that you are available to play at a specific park. From the park or check-in flow, create an invitation with:

  • The park
  • An optional message of up to 140 characters

Creating a new invitation expires your existing active invitation first. You can cancel your own active invitation from the park surface.

The park invitation list shows active, non-expired invitations from other people at that park. Each invitation can include the inviter's current dog, primary photo, message, and response counts. The list does not include your own invitation.

Respond with On my way or Maybe. Selecting the same response again removes your response; selecting the other response updates it.

Propose a playdate with a match

Playdate proposals are available for an active match. The proposer must be an owner of one of the matched dogs. A proposal contains:

  • The match ID
  • An optional park ID
  • A proposed date and time
  • An optional message of up to 280 characters

There is no activity, type, or category picker in the proposal API. The proposal is the time-and-place conversation between the matched owners.

The other participant can Accept or Decline a proposal. You cannot respond to your own proposal, and a proposal can be answered only once. A proposal can be cancelled while it is still cancellable; declined or completed proposals cannot be cancelled. Upcoming results include accepted proposals for an active dog whose proposed time has not passed.

Badges and birthdays

A successful park check-in can return newly earned badges and the account's badge list. Badges that are marked to show on a profile can appear on that dog's public profile. You can also claim the birthday badge when the active dog's birthday is today.

The Matches screen checks matched dogs' stored dates of birth for today's month and day. When a match has a birthday today, the app can show the dog's name, breed, age being reached, and primary photo. Tap Send a birthday bark to open that match's chat.

Report content

Use the report control on a dog profile, message, owner photo, or park report. Choose one of these reasons:

  • Inappropriate content
  • Harassment
  • Spam
  • Fake profile
  • Underage user
  • Other

You can add details of up to 500 characters. You cannot report your own content, and submitting the same report again returns an already-reported result rather than creating a duplicate.

The app exposes a report-status check so a report form can show whether you have already reported the item. A report is a moderation signal, not a promise that the other person has been screened or verified.

Block and mute controls

Use Block user when you want to end contact. A block is applied atomically and severs matches and messaging in both directions. The blocked-user list in settings shows the blocked person's current dog name and primary photo when available. Select Unblock to remove the block and restore any match that is eligible to be reset.

Mute is different from blocking: it suppresses push notifications without severing the match. You can mute or unmute a user and view the IDs of users you currently mute.

How moderation works

Moderation procedures are admin-only, even though their results affect public profiles:

  1. Reports are queued. Admins can list reports, see total and pending counts, and review a report with one of three resolutions: dismissed, content removed, or user suspended.
  2. Photos are queued. Admins can review pending publication photos as well as flagged or unchecked photos. A publication decision can approve a photo or hide the profile. A flagged-photo review can approve the item or hide the profile.
  3. Suspensions are managed separately. Admins can list live suspensions and lift all suspensions for a user when appropriate.
  4. Rejected bytes are purged. When moderation rejects a photo, the server purges its stored photo bytes. A rejected photo is not signed for display.

The product terms state that Dog Meets Dog does not screen or verify users and is not responsible for users' conduct online or in person. A report, block, or moderation result is not a safety guarantee; use your own judgment before meeting someone and follow the Terms of Service.
